The End

Our journey On the Road is finally over and I can safety say that I am glad! The book was tedious, as I felt that Sal and his friends continued to make the same mistakes, neither changing nor growing, which was extremely disappointed. The narration lacked the strength to keep me engaged in the story and the well being of the characters. I honestly believe that if Sal tragically died in the middle of the story I truly could have cared less. The story actually could have gone on without him just fine. Sal made no character arch and his journey on the road lead to nothing of importance in his life. He merely lost some friends and gained some less then desirable stories along the way.  Dean was another disappoint. He was not even good enough character to be an anti-hero. Dean was just a loser who could not get his life or his mind together long enough to do anything of consequence. Dean relationships were unstable, obviously stemming from his deadbeat dad.  He was constantly screwing up or driving people away and he made no effort to change. Dean was merely encouraged by Sal and his other friend who worship him to stay the same crazy and unreliable guy that he always was and will be.

To top it all off the end was as unsatisfying as the rest of the book. It literally just ended. There was no climax or resolution, just a parting of ways between two “friends”.  I cannot even begin to communicate how frustrating that is. They were not punishment for any of their action or changed by them. Sal instead of seeing that Dean was poison, actually reminisced about how great he was as a person. So I guess if someone were to ask me if I like the book I would say no. If someone asked me to recommend the book, I would also say no. I think that book was the biggest waste of time and I cannot see why anyone would say that this is a classic. I am sorry Jack Kerouac, your book glories sexist pigs and irresponsibility in the worst possible way.
